Volunteers Make the Difference!
“... Volunteers are critical to the daily operations of each school. ...Families and communities are asked to consult with their youth on this crucial need and encourage them to take advantage of this priceless opportunity to serve the Faith at a national school.”
National Spiritual Assembly, letter dated February 11, 2009
Bahá’í Youth Service Corps and the Five Year Plan
Youth ages 18 – 25 are invited to apply for the Year of Service program at Louhelen. Recently, The American Baha'i magazine included an article about Louhelen's service youth.
During this year of service, youth are immersed in the Institute process, and consecrate themselves to the spirit of the Faith, becoming invincible champions of justice for a united world.
The Year of Service program integrates intensive service to people of all ages and backgrounds who come to Louhelen, direct service to the children, youth, and adults in the local community, learning through on-going spiritual development, and participating in residential Bahá’í community life.
Youth serve in hospitality and guest service, food service, maintenance, bookstore, and other areas. In recent years Youth Service Corps members have come from many states and countries.

“I think that a youth can talk to anyone here and be themselves without fear of rejection or being picked on. If you are having a problem you can go to anyone here. People are very welcoming here. Don't be afraid to get to know the adults.”
Zuri McClelland, Virginia

“Prior to coming to Louhelen I was a bit worried about being homesick, about coping with a continuously changing schedule. What I found out about myself was that I was able to cope with the schedule and obviously I missed home and family but living with the other youth everyday makes them like family to me. If I ever had a bad day they were always there for me to lean on and talk with.”
Pezhvok Joshgani, England

Youth Counselor Mentorship Program
Praise God that you are interested in serving as a counselor and wish to nurture His Cause in the hearts of the young. Counselors and youth mentors are a vital part of a successful institute. Youth who serve the Camp Louhelen Children’s Institutes or the Spiritual Empowerment for Junior Youth Institute are referred to as counselors and youth who serve the Youth Eagle Institute are referred to as youth mentors. Those selected to serve, are chosen for their maturity of faith and proven capacity for service. As such, they are called to selfless service, firmness in the Covenant, and consistently fostering love and unity.
There are four institutes offered in the summer that provide an opportunity to serve in this capacity. You don’t have to travel the world to become a leader in the Cause of Bahaullah. Come to Louhelen and learn to be an Invincible Champion of Justice!
If you are considering application for this service please see the list of responsibilities in the Youth Mentorship Counselor application.

Children's Class Teachers
An important element of Louhelen's family-oriented program is the children's class, and the children's teachers are all volunteers. Your contribution as a teacher represents a magnificent gift of time, energy, and love that is of inestimable value to the school.
